Why this study is being done, and what it hopes to achieve.

Project Overview

In accordance with Cook County’s long-term goals outlined in Connecting Cook County, the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (CCDOTH) has initiated the Kedzie Avenue Phase I Study. The study area includes the Kedzie Avenue corridor from W 159th Street (US Hwy 6) to the north to Vollmer Road to the south.

This study will include an assessment of pavement condition, traffic, multi-modal facilities, drainage, safety, and environmental conditions and needs along this roadway corridor. The overall goals of the project are to address existing deficiencies and improve safety and mobility for all users.

Project Process

The Kedzie Avenue Phase I Study is a major undertaking by the CCDOTH. The engineering and design project team will collect and analyze data from along the corridor, as well as collect input from the public through Stakeholder Meetings and an Online Survey. The project team will use this information to develop alternatives for the design of Kedzie Avenue that improves the quality of life of the community.

These alternatives will be presented to the community at Public Meeting #1 where the design team will ask for feedback on the alternatives. Additional stakeholder and public involvement, as well as guidance from the Corridor Advisory Committee, will help identify a preferred alternative for Kedzie Avenue that meets the project goals and is supported by the community.

The project team will draw the specific roadway configuration and present the final preferred alternative to the community at Public Meeting #2. The Study will conclude with a final plan document summarizing the Study and recommendations for Kedzie Avenue improvements.
